2010 Indian River Lagoon Envirothon

The staff at Southeast Soil & Environmental Service volunteer their time each year to assist in running the Indian River Lagoon Regional Envirothon. The Indian River Lagoon Regional Envirothon is a competition among high school students from Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin and Okeechobee Counties. The students compete in five categories; soils, wildlife, forestry, water, Indian River Lagoon and a current topic which is selected each year by the Kodak North American Envirothon. The winners from each county go on to the Florida State Envirothon competition and the winners from that competition go on to the Kodak North American Envirothon. The 2010 Indian River Lagoon Envirothon was help February 26, 2010 at Smith Ranch in Okeechobee. The winning team from St. Lucie County, from John Carroll High School, also won the Florida State Envirothon in April and is heading to the Kodak North American Envirothon this summer in San Diego, California.

2010 Hydric Soils Workshop

Each year in April Southeast Soil and Environmental Service staff volunteers their time to help the Florida Association of Environmental Soil Scientists present a Hydric Soils Workshop training for other environmental professionals. Each year the workshop is held in a different part of Florida. This year the workshop was held in southern Indian River County.
